Systems Strategy

Laura Strong, PhD is an interface designer, information architect, and systems thinker working across complex, rapidly evolving domains.
Her work focuses on designing clear, intuitive interfaces and information environments that support real-world use across health and wellbeing, energy systems, manufacturing, automation, infrastructure, and data-intensive platforms. These systems often require careful attention to privacy, compliance, analytics, and the integration of large volumes of data into forms that are usable, meaningful, and responsive.
With a foundation in Commercial Design from Art Center College of Design and training in Information Architecture and User Interface Design at San Francisco State University, Laura brings a strong design sensibility together with deep systems thinking. Her work involves shaping workflows, aligning data with human use, and designing systems that can evolve over time, including those that support manufacturing processes, field-based applications, and emerging forms of automation.
She also holds a PhD in Mythological Studies with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. This background informs her understanding of pattern, meaning, and the deeper layers of human experience that shape how people engage with systems, technology, and the world around them. Her interests include the creative unconscious, archetypal patterning, and the role of imagination in times of transformation.
Laura also works with living environments, including eco homes and properties designed for beauty, function, and the needs of those who are energetically sensitive, along with food-growing gardens and landscapes that support connection, nature, and harmony within place.
Based on Whidbey Island in the Salish Sea near Seattle, her work is grounded in both practical application and a broader understanding of systems as living, evolving fields. She engages through workshops, conferences, and creative practice, bringing clarity, coherence, and alignment into the systems that shape how we live and work, and into the environments that support life itself.
What I Offer
Laura works with organizations, teams, and individuals developing systems and environments that require clarity, coherence, and thoughtful design.
Her work includes:
- Interface design for complex systems, including manufacturing, energy, health, and automation
- Information architecture for data-intensive platforms and applications
- Workflow and systems design for both digital and real-world environments
- Design of mobile and field-based interfaces for use in dynamic, real-world conditions
- Development of digital platforms, from well-crafted websites to more complex, evolving systems
- Aligning systems, data, and user experience for clarity, usability, and long-term adaptability
Approach
Each project is approached as a system in itself, with attention to how people, information, technology, and environment come into relationship.
Her work is grounded in clarity, coherence, and adaptability, with an emphasis on creating systems that function well in real-world conditions while remaining responsive over time.
Drawing from both technical and depth-oriented perspectives, she brings an awareness of pattern, process, and meaning to the design of systems that are not only functional, but aligned with the broader contexts in which they exist.
Laura’s work is also informed by an ongoing area of research focused on energy, frequency, and their role in human and environmental systems. Through direct exploration of emerging tools and technologies, she studies how these dynamics can support coherence, resilience, and the ability to adapt during periods of rapid change. This research continues to inform her approach to design, particularly in complex environments where human experience, system behavior, and technology are closely intertwined.
