Laura Strong, PhD

Laura Strong, PhD, is an interface designer, information architect, and systems thinker who works with complex systems and emerging technologies.

Her work spans energy and infrastructure, manufacturing and automation, health and wellbeing, and data-intensive digital platforms. She specializes in making complicated systems understandable and usable, bringing together workflows, information, technology, and human needs in ways that work in real-world environments.

Laura holds a degree in Commercial Design from Art Center College of Design, with additional training in Information Architecture and User Interface Design at San Francisco State University. Over more than two decades, her work has evolved from visual and digital design into the architecture of complex systems, including interfaces for manufacturing processes, energy systems, field applications, healthcare, and emerging technologies.

She also holds a PhD in Mythological Studies with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. This background brings another dimension to her work: an understanding of pattern, meaning, imagination, and the deeper ways people perceive and interact with the systems and environments around them.

Her interests extend beyond digital systems into living environments, including ecological homes, food-growing gardens, and landscapes designed around beauty, function, resilience, and connection to place.

Based on Whidbey Island in the Salish Sea near Seattle, Laura brings together design, technology, systems thinking, and a lifelong interest in the relationship between people and the environments they inhabit.

Her ongoing research explores energy, frequency, consciousness, and their relationship to human and environmental systems. Through direct exploration of emerging ideas, tools, and technologies, she is interested in how these dynamics may contribute to coherence, resilience, and adaptation during periods of rapid change.

Across all of her work, Laura is interested in how complex systems can be designed with greater clarity, coherence, and awareness of the larger whole. Her work brings together technology, human experience, and the living environment to create systems that not only function well, but contribute to more thoughtful and resilient ways of living and working.
